Case studies
The three engagements below are described on TBO Consulting’s own materials. Figures are as the owners reported them. Every business is different, and results vary with the business, the market and the owner’s own effort.
Will, builder, Sydney
Australia
Situation. Will was on the tools and running every job himself, charging $75 an hour, labour only. The business depended on his hours and his presence on site.
What we did. We worked on how the business won work and who ran it day to day, moving it from labour-only hire towards full contract projects and putting one of Will’s own builders in charge of daily operations.
Outcome. Eight to twelve weeks later, Will was winning full contract projects at $250 an hour, and one of his own builders was running the day to day. Will moved into sales and growth.
Georgie, building company, London

Situation. Georgie’s company took on big projects and dealt with a slow council process, yet every small job still landed on his desk.
What we did. We took the small, low-value work off the owner’s desk and set the business up so it no longer needed him to handle it.
Outcome. Five months later, 50k a month became 75k to 80k a month, and the small stuff no longer touches him.

New Zealand
Situation. Gus was doing most of the work in the business himself.
What we did. We helped him make a few key hires to take the low-value work off him, so his time went where it mattered most.
Outcome. Eighteen months on, the business had grown to $1.8M a year, in the same market everyone else calls dead.
